Stuart Collector, C. R. Gloyd
Collector, Cecil R. Gloyd, in Missouri, has the largest known collection of Stuart 1950s-60s western toy miniatures. Also known as Stuart Guru, he has been collecting Stuarts before Internet auctions. Cecil and his wife, Shelly, have enough vintage Stuart western toys to open a museum. Gloyd has also collected Anchor Buggy and Carriage Company models, the 1953 Post Cereals Roy Rogers Ranch Set premium, Made in Hong Kong Stuart knockoff packaged sets, Marx sets, Ideal and other vintage toys.
"As one of twelve children, money for toys was tight but I still remember the pleasure I got playing cowboys and Indians with my Marx playset and Stuart horses and riders. I started my collection with a Marx Roy Rogers Ranch set, like I had as a kid. I was amazed I could find this stuff after all of these years. I couldn't image why a kid would have a set like this and not play with it. All of my toys had been well-played-with and that set was like new. As time passed and I talked to more people, asking about Stuart horses, figures and accessories. All were glad to get rid of it as everyone seemed to be wanting the Marx stuff and nobody wanted Stuart. The bigger toy dealers would send me lists of Stuarts they had and some would even send me the items with an enclosed bill. I told them I would take it all. People used to laugh but I didn't care, some even called me the Guru of Stuart, but to me that was a compliment. I loved the stuff. Before I knew it I had obtained perhaps the largest collection of Stuart that anyone had ever seen...I will forever love the Stuart figures and horses. My collection knows no bounds. I will never stop collecting."
