Stuart Sets
Stuart produced approximately 45 miniature Western sets and some of these had a series. Some photos on this page will be changed periodically to show more sets. The sets shown here are from Stuart materials provided by the Balterman family.
Some earlier 1950s sets had no logos on the packaging. From materials received, the first Stuart logo was definitely used by the time Stuart was relocated to 337 W. Fifth Street in the late 50s (see the Cavalry Patrol set, below). However, some earlier sets were still being offered in those product sheets without a logo. Stuart's 1960 line had a new logo and colorful new packaging, designed by Robert Zeidman and Associates in New York, NY (see the set photos, above). Stuart added Civil War sets to the 1960s toys.
Assembling these toys into packages had to be done by hand. Dexter Balterman told me that it was labor intense and took a lot of time. Stuart used a variety of colors of horses, figures and accessories in the sets to attract more sales. Color combinations in each set could vary.
